Nobby The Little Footballer

NOBBY THE ‘LITTLE’ FOOTBALLER

Nobby’ was a young lad, and he lived a football dream.
To one day score the winning goal, for his local football team.
But Nobby’ had an issue, and it was plain for all to see.
For Nobby’ was quite short and stout, and only three foot three.

He would sit alone in the dugout, waiting for his chance to play.
But the matches they just passed him by, no game for him today.
They considered him far too small- to play with the taller lads.
All he could do was watch the games, with the other Mums and Dads.

But that wouldn’t stop little Nobby’. He knew his chance would come.
He’d be ready in an instant, and then, he’d show them, everyone.
That being small doesn’t stop you, from fulfilling your every dream.
Playing with your friends and pals, in a proper football team.

He’d be patient and would train like mad, in the hope he’d grow a bit taller.
Then they could all watch his skills and see he’s a proper footballer.
He would dazzle them with his amazing speed and incredible change of pace.
He would run until his lungs would burst, and laugh as they gave chase.

Suddenly, there was some commotion. One of the players yelled out in pain.
He needed to be stretchered off. His loss was Nobby’s gain.
The manager looked at young Nobby’. Come on Nobby’ you’re on!
Just do what you do in training. And in a flash young Nobby’ was gone.

Nobby’ ran onto the pitch, huge excitement on his face.
The crowd all howled with laughter and fell about the place.
“Who on earth is that?” Cried one fan, screaming from the crowd.
“He’s far too small for football. He shouldn’t be allowed!”

The game restarts quite quickly. Nobby’ screams out for the ball.
He pulls out wide into some space, then traps and controls the ball.
Nobby’ ran at the defenders, they were large and quick and tall.
But Nobby’ dazzled with his speed. He was quick and fast and small.

He left the defenders standing, they’re confused and hold their heads.
Nobby’s skills are astounding, as he runs between their legs.
The opponents stare in disbelief at this footballer so small.
Nobby’ shoots. His aim is true. He scores a wonder goal.

The whistle blew quite loudly. It was the final kick of the game.
The supporters they all chanted, and sang out Nobby’s name.
To them he was their champion. No longer this boy, so small.
Nobby’, now on top of the world, and feeling ten foot tall.

So for all you aspiring footballers, it doesn’t matter what size you are.
Big or small, fat or slim. You can always be the star.
You just have to believe in yourself, you are a number one
Just go and do what Nobby’ did. Try hard and have some fun.

A fun poem I wrote about a vertically challenged young man. There is a moral to this poem which is basically no matter how tall, small, large you are. They can never stop you fulfilling your dreams.

“Intensity is strong,

overwhelming at times

but I am stronger.”

"Two lovers kissed on that lonely lane.

But cupids arrow missed, their love will never be the same."
